On a snowy night in the Frozen Tundra, my colleague offered to me a chance to indulge in what he claimed was “the freshest brew this side of the equator.*” The Stone Brewing Co. “Enjoy by 4.01.13” is a double IPA offering, which automatically made me have my doubts on the beer, as I don’t exactly care for pale ale’s and their overly bitter taste. Nonetheless I pushed forward like William Wallace on the great green hills of Scotland and poured the beer into a nice, clean glass. Automatically the strong hoppy aroma lets you know you are about to be in for an experience. A beautiful gold color make the beer real attractive in the glass. As for the color, the freshness is like nothing I’ve ever tasted in bottled beer before. Crisp and smooth finish with a slight bitter backend makes gives this beer a really nice mouth feel. I don’t know about you, but I’m all about mouth feel. All around, the beer holds up to it’s claim of unmatched freshness. I think it would be interesting to see how the beer tastes a week or two after the claimed date, if the freshness falters at all, or if it goes on sale! If you get a chance to pick this up and you enjoy IPA’s at all, suck up the tenner and grab a bottle, you will not regret it.
Final Word: Although not exactly my cup of beer, the quality here can not be denied. I give thee 4 apples ripe for the picking, out of 5.
